![]() | Mary Denise Cahill Mary Denise Cahill is the owner of Cahill & Associates. Her firm concentrates its practice in the areas of school law, special education law, disability rights law and estate planning for families with special needs issues. The firm represents families of children with special needs, including children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, developmental disabilities, emotional disorders and learning disabilities. Prior to going into private practice, Ms. Cahill worked for the Chicago Board of Education as an attorney where she supervised six attorneys and supporting staff while maintaining an active case load. Her division was responsible for all employee discipline and discharge matters, related federal and state litigation, and EEOC or Department of Human Rights. Additional duties included drafting proposed state legislation relating to employment issues and representing CPS in tax levy challenges. Ms. Cahill has litigated numerous matters related to equal pay, sex and race discrimination, and IDEIA and Section 504. She is a frequent presenter to parent support groups such as CHADD, as well as school district sponsored support groups. Ms. Cahill is a member of the DuPage County Bar Association; the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers; the Council of Parents, Attorneys and Advocates; CHADD; and the Learning Disabilities Association of Illinois. She received both her B.S. and J.D. degree from Loyola University Chicago. Ms. Cahill is licensed in Illinois and Arizona. She also holds a secondary teaching certificate in Illinois. |
![]() | Alysha Briggs-Miller Ms. Briggs-Miller is an associate attorney at Cahill & Associates, specializing in school law, special education law and estate planning. Prior to her employment at Cahill & Associates, Ms. Briggs-Miller completed an internship with the Guardianship and Advocacy Commission of Illinois drafting briefs on behalf of involuntarily committed patients. While completing her law degree, Ms. Briggs-Miller worked as a sign language interpreter for Northern Illinois University, interpreting university classes for deaf students. Ms. Briggs-Miller received her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Northern Illinois University College of Law and was a member of the law review. Ms. Briggs-Miller is licensed in Illinois. |
